Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I seal my pavers?
Pavers are sealed for protection, enhancement & ease of maintenance.
My pavers were just installed. How long do I need to wait before I can seal them?
Generally 30-60 days after manufacturing, but it really depends on the type of pavers you have and the extent of efflorescence present in your pavers. Also follow the recommendation of the paver manufacturer.
How long does the process of cleaning and sealing take?
Usually 2-3 days but it depends on the product used and conditions.
However, with our Cobble Loc cleaning and sealing may be done in one day!
I have leaf stains on my pavers. What can I use to get this off?
Cobble Prep is the appropriate product for this stain. We recommend using the directions provided on the label and work with a weaker dilution to a stronger dilution. Always do a test area.
When do my pavers need re-sanding?
Re-sanding is generally done for appearances prior to resealing however re-sanding may be necessary after power washing depending how much sand was removed during cleaning.
Will sealing my pavers make them shine?
Sealing pavers will make them shine only if the sealer used is intended to provide a shine.
I have a white haze on my pavers and they have not been sealed. What can I do about this?
Cobble Prep is the appropriate product for this situation. Efflorescence is a white deposit sometimes left behind on top of the paver during the curing process. We recommend using the directions provided on the label and work with a weaker dilution to a stronger dilution. Always do a test area.
I have sprinkler rust on my pavers. What can I use to get this off?
Cobble Oxhide is the appropriate product for this stain. We recommend using the directions provided on the label and work with a weaker dilution to a stronger dilution. Always do a test area.
How can you tell if you need to reseal your pavers?
A simple way of telling if your pavers need resealing is to run water on the pavers. If the water is immediately absorbed it is time to reseal. Generally, it is recommended to wait a minimum of 18 months before resealing.
How long do I have to wait to drive my car on the pavers after sealing?
It takes 48 hours for most sealers to fully cure.
What time of day is it safe to apply sealer?
It depends on the sealer being used but generally the surface should be dry to touch prior to sealing and 2-4 hours of good weather conditions should be present to allow for adequate drying time.
My car dripped oil on my pavers. What can I use to get this off?
Cobble Clean is the appropriate product for this stain. We recommend using the directions provided on the label and work with a weaker dilution to a stronger dilution. Always do a test area.
I can't get the oil stain out of a brick. What can I do?
Usually when the pavers are first installed the leftovers are left with the homeowner. In cases where oil has been left to sit on the brick for long periods of time, replacing those bricks is the best solution.
I want a high gloss finish on my pavers. What are your recommendations?
Applying the amount of sealer necessary to provide a high gloss finish is not recommended. The ideal sheen is a satin to semi-gloss finish. All of our film formers are designed to provide this finish. The recommended application is two light coats on brand new pavers and one light coat on reseals.
What are film forming & non film forming sealers?
Film forming sealers create a protective shield on top of the pavers. Non film forming sealers protect from within the pavers by repelling stains and water.
How often do I need to reseal my pavers?
We recommend a minimum of 18 months prior to resealing. Generally 2-3 years for driveways & 3-5 years for pool decks depending on conditions and wear.
I had my pavers sealed a few months ago, but now there's a white cloudy film on the surface. Can this be fixed?
This condition is usually a result of a build-up of sealer on the surface. Cobble Cure can be applied and may resolve the problem. Always apply a test area to be sure.
All my pavers are stained beyond repair. What can I do?
Apply two coats of Colorcrete or Coloron.
